Grace Alone

by The Modern Post

The Modern Post is a band who believes that the good news of Jesus should forever be the headline. With their new EP, Grace Alone, the Mars Hill Church band has crafted a mix of upbeat, synth-laden and bass-heavy songs that go beyond styles and lead listeners to a place of rejoicing in the mercy and love God has for us.
Band leader and Deacon Dustin Kensrue’s lyrics challenge believers and non-believers alike to grapple with the gospel of a God who owes them his justice, yet gives them his grace. Brothers Phil and Lee Neujahr provide the driving rhythm of the songs through bass and drums, respectively, and Jonny Sandu’s synth layers the songs even more. Together, their music delivers an energetic sound that defies indifference and invites worship.

Track Name: Just As I Am
Just as I am, without one plea
But that your blood was shed for me
And that Thou bidst me come to Thee

Just as I am, and waiting not,
To rid my soul of one dark blot
To You, whose blood can cleanse each spot

Lamb of God, I come, I come
Lamb of God, I come

Just as I am, though tossed about,
With many conflicts, many doubts
Fights and fears within, without

Just as I am, wretched, blind,
Sight and healing of the mind,
Yeah, all I need, in You Iʼll find

Just as I am, You will receive,
Will welcome, pardon, cleanse, relieve
Because You promise I believe

Words by Charlotte Elliot
Track Name: Grace Alone
I was an orphan, lost at the fall;
Running away when I’d hear you call,
But Father, you worked your will.
I had no righteousness of my own
I had no right to draw near your throne,
But Father, you loved me still.

And in love, before you laid the world’s foundation,
You predestined to adopt me as your own.
You have raised me up so high above my station;
I’m a child of God by grace, and grace alone

You left your home to seek out the lost;
You knew the great and terrible cost
But Jesus, your face was set.
I worked my fingers down to the bone;
But nothing I did could ever atone,
But Jesus, you paid my debt.

By your blood I have redemption and salvation.
Lord you died that I might reap what you have sown,
And you rose that I might be a new creation.
I am born again by grace, and grace alone.

I was darkness all of my life,
I never knew the day from the night,
But Spirit, you made me see.
I swore I knew the way on my own;
Head full of rocks, a heart made of stone
But Spirit, you moved in me.

And At your touch my sleeping spirit was awakened;
On my darkened heart the light of Christ has shone.
Called into a kingdom that cannot shaken;
Heaven’s citizen by grace, and grace alone.

So I’ll stand in faith by grace, and grace alone
I will run the race by grace, and grace alone
I will slay my sin by grace, and grace alone
I will reach the end by grace, and grace alone a

Track Name: Before the Throne
Before the throne of God above
I have a strong and perfect plea.
A great high Priest whose Name is Love
Who ever lives and pleads for me
My name is graven on His hands
My name is written on His heart.
I know that while in Heaven He stands
No tongue can bid me thence depart

When Satan tempts me to despair
And tells me of the guilt within
Upward I look and see Him there
Who made an end of all my sin
Because the sinless Savior died
My sinful soul is counted free
For God the just is satisfied
To look on Him and pardon me.

Behold Him there the risen Lamb
My perfect spotless righteousness
The great unchangeable I AM
The King of glory and of grace,
One with Himself I cannot die
My soul is purchased by His blood,
My life is hid with Christ on high
Track Name: Amazing Grace (God of Grace)
Amazing grace how sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me!
I once was lost, but now am found
Was blind but now I see

T'was grace that taught my heart to fear
And grace my fears relieved;
How precious did that grace appear
The hour I first believed

O God of grace, Who cleanses me of sin
Your strong embrace will keep me till the end

The Lord has promised good to me
His word my hope secures
He will my shield and portion be
As long as life endures

The earth shall soon dissolve like snow
The sun forbear to shine;
But God, who called me here below
Will be forever mine

Words by John Newton and Dustin Kensrue
Track Name: White As Snow
Have mercy on me, oh God
According to Your unfailing love
According to Your great compassion
Blot out my transgressions

Would you create in me a clean heart, oh God
Restore in me the joy of Your salvation

Wash me white as snow
And I will be made whole

The sacrifices of our God are a broken and a contrite heart
Against You and You alone have I sinned

Words by Jon Foreman
